Pillars of the Community - Acts 2:42-47
Worship and Prayer
What we value we exult. What we exult we worship. Worship and Prayer as a way of living infuses Christ at the centre of everything-at the centre of our selves through valuing his Word, at the centre of other people by serving them with extravagant generosity.
As a family, our household is shaped by this lifestyle, seeking to live out of a place of continual conversion toward the person of Jesus-which we access through prayer. Prayer as a way of life is the process through which the state of continual conversion or transformation brings us into communication and union with Christ. Prayer is encouraged for everyone individually and for all of us corporately as it is the way!
Intimacy and Healing
We believe true relationship founded in love is necessary to the abundant life Christ embodied. The result of healing is wholeness and intimacy with Christ. The Bridge values significant, meaningful relationships with Jesus and with each other. Through the example of Christ living on earth we know God's will is to heal the broken parts of our lives and reconcile us to Him and others.
For this reason The Bridge has chosen a relational model of being church rather than an event based model of doing church. All that we are must work to move people toward wholeness and toward healthy, balanced relationships.
Destiny and Purpose
Helping people discover their destiny and fulfill their purpose is one of our central values. Each person's journey matters here. It matters for the individual and for the body corporate. A dynamic, vital community will grow as each one discovers and lives out their purpose in the myriad of unique ways. We are designed to live out our dreams and passions.
The Bridge will strive to provide a supportive environment to accomplish this through collaboration, imagination, holding up right character and integrity as a guide for all endeavors. Because being is as integral as doing in becoming who we are designed to be, motive and intent are central to every act, every relationship.
Mercy and Justice
When Jesus taught his disciples to pray He put mercy and justice at the top of the list. In the well worn prayer he said "thy will be done, thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven" and through courageous acts of mercy and strong conviction toward justice heaven on earth will come. It is in these two virtues we commit to taking care of the poor-in body and in spirit; protecting children; honoring the aged and investing in the young.
Traditionally we have expected the government to provide all these needs for society. But at The Bridge we see the church as a force in providing social programming, education, and volunteer labor because our hope for the world is Great. May our faith in Christ's words-let your kingdom come-stir us to action, to good works. |
